Historic Resource Survey
Harvard Hills Neighborhood
Tulsa, Oklahoma
in progress
The discovery of oil near Tulsa in the early-twentieth century ushered in decades of profound growth for the nascent city. Housing was still desperately needed when the Harvard Hills subdivision was platted in east Tulsa in 1929. The subdivision and neighboring plats were soon filled with modest homes in the popular Tudor and Colonial Revival styles before the Great Depression halted construction in the city. World War II and programs by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) revived building in the neighborhood with houses constructed in the Minimal Traditional style in the late 1930s and early 1940s.
Katie and Cassandra are conducting an intensive-level survey of 128 properties in the neighborhood which primarily includes residences but also contains the historic Sequoyah School. In April 2026 Cassandra and Katie travelled to Tulsa to complete fieldwork and review city directories, historic newspapers, and city reports at the Tulsa City-County Library. The project is in progress and slated for completion in the summer of 2026.
